GILGIT: Three workers were killed and three others injured after a landslide hit them in the Bauldas area of Nagar district in Gilgit-Baltistan on Monday.
Meanwhile, a youth drowned in Ghizer River in the Gupis Tehsil of Ghizer district.
According to a statement issued by the GB Police spokesperson, a landslide struck a group of workers returning from their work in Bauldas area of Nagar.
Soon after receiving information, police, the district administration, rescue teams and local residents reached the spot and launched a rescue operation.
The three workers, identified as Muhammad Khan Ghir of Pattan Kohistan, Fida Hussain of Nagar Khas and Shafqat of Jhelum, died on the spot.
The injured were identified as Samiullah of Pattan Kohistan, Ali Ahmed Jan of Chalt, Nagar, and Sabir of Jhelum. They were shifted to a nearby hospital.
The bodies of two deceased workers and the three injured persons were pulled out of the debris and shifted to Headquarters Hospital, Sikanderabad Nagar.
The bodies of the deceased were later sent to their native villages and handed over to their families and relatives.
Meanwhile, a youth drowned in the Pingal area of Gupis Tehsil in Ghizer district on Monday.
According to Rescue 1122, after receiving information about the incident, its officials and local volunteers launched a search operation; however, the youth could not be traced till evening.
A Rescue 1122 official urged the public to avoid swimming, fishing, collecting firewood and unnecessarily visiting riverbanks due to the intense heat and rapid melting of glaciers, which had increased water levels.
