PESHAWAR, July 15: A girl was married with her fiance at a crisis centre of the provincial government on the directives of a court.

“The nikah of the couple was performed on Friday in the presence of the girl’s mother and the boy’s family,” said the official in charge of the centre, Tahira Ali.

She said rukhsati of the girl, Gulmeena, would take place after the court issued an order in this regard.

The court of Judicial Magistrate Malik Amjid Raheem will hear the case on July 24.

Ms Ali said the bridegroom would give as dower five tolas of gold ornaments and Rs50,000. He would also pay Rs2,000 monthly to his wife, he said. The man is a painter.

The girl of Mathra area had left her home a few months back as she was unhappy with the treatment meted out to her by her family.

She was arrested and presented before the judicial magistrate, who ordered that she be kept in the crisis centre.

Her brother filed an application requesting that she be handed over to her family. However, the girl expressed the apprehension that she would be killed by her brother.

Later, her fiance Shareefullah Khan filed an application stating that she should be allowed to go with him. The court had ordered that first they should get married after which she could go with him.
