HYDERABAD, July 15: Protests were held across Sindh on Saturday against the assignation of Allama Hassan Turabi, provincial vice-president of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal and chief of the Tehrik-i-Islami.

Social and religious leaders have said that anti-Islamic forces are trying to create sectarian riots but the Shias and Sunnis are united on one platform against their common enemy.

The government had failed to provide protection even to high-profile people, the speakers said in front of the Hyderabad Press Club on Saturday addressing a rally held under the aegis of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) and Shia Ulema Council.

Speaking on the occasion, local MMA leaders and Shia representatives alleged that Allama Turabi had been murdered at the behest of the US. Peoples’ Lawyers Forum also staged a protest demonstration outside the press club.

NAWABSHAH: A complete strike was observed here against the killing as main markets and other areas remained closed.

Some protesters smashed window glasses of shops in Mohini bazaar pressing closure. Incidents of aerial firing and tyre burning were reported in some areas.

Meanwhile, activists of the SUC and MMA took out a procession which started from Murtazvi Imam Bargah and ended at Shiraz chowk where protesters observed a sit-in blocking the road.

JACOBABAD: Activists of the Millat-i-Jafria, MMA and other political parties here took out a procession against the incident.

Carrying banners and placards, protesters were raising slogans against the government.

NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: Activists of the MMA took out processions in Naushahro Feroze, Bhirya Road and Padidan on Saturday to protest the high-profile killing of Allama Hassan Turabi. A shutter-down strike was observed in Mithiani town.

KHAIRPUR: A complete strike was observed in the city against the killing of Allama Hassan Turabi and his nephew Ali Turabi in Karachi. Setharja, Thari Mirwah and Babarloi also remained closed in protest.

DADU: Business activities remained suspended in Dadu, Johi and Kotri towns against the murder of the MMA leader. A rally was also staged in Dadu.

SANGHAR: The Millat-i-Jafria and MMA took out a procession in Tando Adam against the killing of Allama Turabi and his nephew. It started from the Imam Bargah and terminated at the local press club.
