LONDON: Some 3,000 people, including im­­migrants and trade unionists, marched thro­u­­gh London yesterday [July 4] to present a me­­­- ­­morandum to Prime Minister James Calla­g­-han’s office calling for a Government inquiry into racialism in Britain. Police said the protest … organised by the Asian Action Com­m­ittee, went off peacefully. The memorandum outlined proposals to combat racialism and specifically asked for a Government inquiry into “racial violence, its deeper causes and the illegal activities of racist bodies.” … One Asian immigrant leader said … “the mood is for self defence and the Asian Action Com­mit­tee will have no alternative except to encourage … in organising self defence groups unless the British Government is seen to be taking firm action.”

[Meanwhile, as reported by news agencies from Nairobi,] Ugandan President Idi Amin today [July 5] appealed to the United Nations to condemn the Israeli raid on Entebbe airport … as an act of aggression. President Amin accused Kenya of allowing Israeli planes to land in Nairobi before and after the assault in which over 100 hostages … were freed. He had earlier said Uganda reserved the right to retaliate… .
