LOS ANGELES, July 13: Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are teaming up for a film based on the story of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, who was kidnapped and killed in Pakistan, Paramount Vantage announced on Thursday.

The film will mark the actress’s return to work after the birth of her daughter Shiloh Nouvel in Namibia in May.

Jolie will star as Mariane Pearl, the journalist’s wife, in the screen adaptation of A Mighty Heart: The Brave Life and Death of My Husband Danny Pearl.

Pitt is slated to produce the film.

“I hope the film will serve as a lasting remembrance of Danny’s life and the incredible journey Mariane endured to uncover the truth,” said John Lesher, president of Vantage.

The film will be directed by Michael Winterbottom, whose credits include The Road to Guantanamo and Welcome to Sarajevo.

The story explores Pearl’s motivations for being in Karachi, his abduction and the efforts to find him, as well as his eventual murder.—AFP
