KARACHI: The Sindh government has moved the Supreme Court seeking review of its June 10 verdict through which it had acquitted two Muttahida Qaumi Movement workers in the Baldia Town factory fire case.

The provincial government, through the Sindh prosecutor general, filed the review petition, stating that the judgement had suffered from “error of facts, circumstances, confessional statement and violation of law of vicarious liability and common object”.

It maintained that the SC overlooked the evidence of star witnesses of prosecution, factory owner, a judicial magistrate and other key witnesses.

It is contended in the petition that the report of the joint investigation team was also overlooked while passing the acquittal as there were sufficient proof existed against accused/convicts.

The provincial government asked the apex court to grant leave to appeal and review its June 10 judgement.

On June 10, a three-judge bench of the Supreme Court had acquitted the two MQM workers, Abdul Rehman alias Bhola and Zubair alias Chariya, by extending them benefit of the doubt.
