BAJAUR: Bajaur Aman Jirga, a body of local elders, politicians, social activists and traders, announced here on Tuesday to hold a peace rally today (Wednesday) against unrest in the region.

The decision was taken in a meeting of the jirga held in Civil Colony, Khar, with its chief Sahibzada Haroon Rashid in the chair. The meeting was held two days after a suspected quadcopter strike on a house in Inam Khoro China Gai area of War Mamund tehsil killed a nine-year-old boy and injured a woman.

MNA Mubarakzeb Khan, JUI-F’s Haji Said Badshah, PTI’s Dr Khalilur Rehman, PPP’s Shakeel Khan, local elder Khalid Khan, Khar Traders Association president Wajid Ali Shah, Mian Habib Gul and others addressed the meeting.

They alleged that law and order in the district had been unsatisfactory for a long time, particularly over the last couple of years. They said that military operations were conducted in several areas against terrorists but no visible improvement in the situation was witnessed.

They said that residents of the district felt insecure. They said that poor law and order also badly affected socio-economic development of the district. They urged the authorities to take concrete measures for durable peace and stability. They said that they would no longer tolerate unrest in the region.

The jirga decided to hold a massive peace rally in Sadiqabad Bazaar today (Wednesday) to press authorities to take concrete steps for lasting peace.

Talking to journalists after the meeting, Sahibzada Haroon Rashid said that participants of the rally would carry white flags.

He urged people from all walks of life to attend the rally, which would start at 8am.
