PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has directed deputy commissioners and Private Schools Regularity Authority to take legal action against the private schools that are functioning in the extreme hot weather despite summer vacations.

“It has been observed through social media and other sources that some educational institutions across the province are calling students to schools for academic activities, in violation of government’s decision,” said a notification issued by elementary and secondary education department.

It said that functioning of schools might pose serious health risks to students due to the prevailing extreme weather conditions.

“Keeping in view the above, the managing director of Private Schools Regulatory Authority (PSRA) and all deputy commissioners in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are requested to ensure strict enforcement of the above mentioned notification through regular monitoring and inspections of all private/public institutions,” said the notification.

It said that in case of any violation, strict disciplinary and legal actions should be taken against the defaulting institutions in accordance with relevant rules and regulations.

In light of education department’s directives, PSRA ordered all private schools that no educational institution should be kept open or students should be called for academic or co-curricular activities after June 30.
