QUETTA: Workers and supporters of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) on Monday staged a protest demonstration at Sariab Road area against awarding of life imprisonment to Dr Mahrang Baloch and another leader by a court.

Dr Mahrang Baloch, the chief organiser of BYC, was detained with other leaders of the organisation last year in March.

She was tried in an anti-terrorism court (ATC) over the death of an FC man during Raji Muchi (Baloch gathering) in July 2024, in Gwadar.

The ATC Judge also awarded life imprisonment to another leader of BYC, Sibghatullah Shahjee.

The protesters gathered at Bashir Chowk area and blocked the road by burning tyres and putting barricades and chanted slogans against the government.

The protest was to be held in front of Burma Hotel, but the local administration deployed a heavy contingent of police and did not allow BYC workers and supporters to stage their demonstration.
