MEXICO CITY: Ecuador’s late World Cup surge runs into Mexico’s immaculate defence and the weight of the Azteca Stadium atmosphere when they face the co-hosts for a place in the last 16 on Tuesday.

Ecuador made the last 32 the hard way, recovering from a 1-0 loss to Ivory Coast by drawing 0-0 against Curacao before reviving their campaign with a 2-1 comeback win over Germany.
