SUKKUR: The First Additional District and Sessions Judge of Khairpur Liaquat Ali Khoso, presiding over the Model Criminal Trial Court, sentenced five accused to death and three others to life imprisonment in two separate murder cases.

Three of the accused — Sabz Ali, Saddam Hussain and Mehr Hussain — were found guilty of killing a man, Piroz Lak, within the limits of the Hingorja police station some 12 years ago.

The co-accused in the case, Mehdi Hassan, Riaz Hussain and Sajan Lak, were awarded life imprisonment.

The judge also imposed a fine of Rs100,000 on each of the six convicts and ordered payment of Rs2m jointly by them to the heirs of the victim as compensation. In a case of default on fine money, the convicts would have to undergo an additional six-month imprisonment, the judgement said.

The same court awarded death sentence to two accused, Mir Hassan Solangi and Gul Hassan Solangi, after they were found guilty of killing three members of their own community, Allah Dino, Irfan, and Ghulam Raza in Malhirani Solangi village in 2014.
