SAHIWAL: On the orders of the additional district and sessions judge, Chichawatni, a police inspector, his three accomplices and six unidentified constables were booked for trespass, maltreatment, torture, house search without a warrant and lady police and kidnap of a youth during a raid at Chak 109/12-L, tehsil Chichawatni, on the night of June 13.

Saddar Police, Chichawatni, registered a case against its Inspector Faisal Hussain, Shahzad, Sajid Hanif, Ali and six unidentified constables on the complaint of Zainab Bibi.

According to the FIR, Inspector Faisal and his team broke into Zainab’s house while inquiring about Hanif, a suspect in a criminal case.

Zainab stated she had no connection with Hanif and had not met him or his family for 25 years. She alleged that when she told Inspector Faisal, he and his men slapped her, tortured her daughters and other family members and confined them to a room while searching the house.

The family further accused police of taking Rs75,000 cash, a gold ring worth Rs150,000 and abducting Zainab’s eldest son, Umair Ali. Zainab claimed that the raid was conducted without a search warrant and without the presence of women police. The following day, the family approached the police station but Umair was not released. They then filed a writ petition before the additional district and sessions judge, who ordered registration of the case after 16 days against the on-duty officers.

Police had released Umair after receiving a court order.

SECTION 144: The district administration has imposed Section 144 and a complete ban on boating, bathing in River Sutlej, all canals and distributaries in district Pakpattan.

Deputy Commissioner Asif Raza told Dawn that because of the ongoing heatwave and high mercury, the general public tended to indulge in boating and bathing in the rivers and water bodies which posed a serious threat to human life and property due to the risk of drowning. In this background, Section 144 had been imposed for 30 days.
