MANSEHRA: A man allegedly shot dead his wife before taking his own life in the Salampura area within the jurisdiction of the Khaki police station here on Monday.

“We shifted the bodies to a nearby health facility after receiving information that a man and his wife were lying in a pool of blood,” district emergency officer of Rescue 1122 Ibrar Ali told reporters.

According to police, Mohammad Bashir allegedly opened fire on his wife, killing her on the spot, before shooting himself.

Police and Rescue 1122 personnel rushed to the scene and shifted the bodies to the King Abdullah Teaching Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

The bodies were handed over to their respective families after postmortem.

The family members of Mohammad Bashir told reporters at the hospital

that he had contracted second marriage with the deceased woman and had been under severe mental stress for several months.

Meanwhile, relatives of the deceased woman expressed suspicion over the circumstances of the incident,

saying that the shooting took place in the presence of the couple’s three-year-old daughter.

The head muharrar at the police reporting room at the hospital said that an FIR was being registered in light of the statements recorded from both families.

“The medico-legal examination, including the postmortems, will help determine the exact circumstances of the incident, and the FIR will be registered in accordance with the statements of the heirs,” he said.

In a separate incident, a man died after being bitten by a snake in the Chulindrian area of Oghi.

According to police, Mohammad Fahim was tending to his livestock in a cattle shed when a snake bit him.

He was rushed to a nearby health facility, where doctors pronounced him dead.
