UNEMPLOYED GRADUATES: Every year, universities in Pakistan produce thousands of graduates. They hope to secure suitable placement, but reality unfolds in the opposite direction, as most of them remain unemployed or have to work in low-paying sectors to support their households. Rapid population growth, lack of industrial activities, political instability, corruption and a weak economy join hands to make matters worse for fresh graduates. Moreover, graduates fall short of industry criteria as a result of having received merely theoretical knowledge, while industries look for individuals with practical skills. This situation causes depression among the young. The government should address this grave concern on an urgent basis. Technical and vocational education do the trick for us.

LOST LIBRARIES: The decline in library culture in universities across the country is alarming. While universities spend on luxurious buildings and fashioned tech facilities, libraries remain neglected. Unfortunately, libraries have just become storehouses of books, attrac-ting very few students. Newspapers, journals and other literary materials have disappeared. Furthermore, digital libraries often remain symbolic as computers need repair, the internet is slow, if available, online resources are scarce, and limited space hosts only a small number of students. This neglect risks producing graduates only trained for exams . The Higher Education Commission (HEC) and university administrations must formulate policies that effectively revive the library culture in universities.

INVESTMENT CEILING: The current investment ceiling for pensioners and senior citizens is Rs7.5 million. To ensure sufficient profit and a respectable living for masses, National Savings should enhance the limit to Rs10 million. This step will ensure decent living for the vulnerable segments of society, and also increase the savings ratio in Pakistan.
