LAHORE: All Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Workers Union on Saturday demanded the government start recruitment against all vacant posts in the electricity department.

Presiding over a meeting, union General Secretary Khurshid Ahmed said that experienced employees of the electricity department were retiring and despite a staff shortage and the ongoing extreme heat, workers continued to ensure an uninterrupted power supply.

He said no recruitment had been made in the department for the past 10 years, while the number of experienced employees continues to decline due to retirements. As a result, line staff was being forced to perform double duties.

He appealed to the prime minister and the federal energy minister to issue orders for recruitments against all vacant posts.
