BAHAWALPUR: Police registered on Sunday two cases, one of a rape attempt on a minor girl and the other pertaining to alleged rape of a boy, reported in the limits of Gaggo Mandi, Vehari district, and Jalalpur Pirwala in Lodhran district, respectively.

In the first incident reported in Chak No 225/EB, as per Gaggo Mandi police, six-year-old ‘M’, niece of Muzamil, was playing in the street, when the suspect, ‘S’, finding her alone, lured her to nearby fields, where he attempted to rape her.

On hearing the girl’s screams, some passersby rushed to the scene. On seeing them, the suspect fled away.

On the complaint of Muzamil, the police registered a rape attempt case against the suspect, who is yet to be arrested.

In the other incident, reported to Jalalpur police in Lodhran district by one Irshad, a suspect ‘N’ allegedly raped his minor son ‘Z’.

The police registered a rape case against the suspect, who could not be arrested so far.

WOMAN MURDERED: Luddan police in Vehari district claimed to have arrested a man for allegedly killing his wife, after her body was recovered from a pit in his house’s courtyard at Mauza Hashimwala.

According to police sources, the suspect, Liaquat Ali, had strained relations with his wife Hafeeza Bibi. The couple had a five-year-old daughter, Yasmeen.

In the light of investigation, the police say that last week the couple had a quarrel, during which Liaquat allegedly killed Hafeeza and secretly dumped her body in a pit he dug up in his house’s courtyard.

To conceal his crime, Liaquat claimed that his wife had gone missing.

On the complaint of Hafeeza’s parents, Luddan police launched a search and interrogated Liaquat.

Police claimed that during interrogation, Liaquat confessed to have murdered his wife and dumped her body in a pit in his house’s courtyard.

On identification, the police recovered the woman’s body and registered a case under section 302 of the PPC against Liaquat.

The body was moved to a government hospital for the postmortem examination.
