KARACHI: Environmental surveillance continues to show encouraging trends with only one out of 29 samples testing positive for poliovirus this month so far, the Emergency Operation Centre (EOC), Sindh, has stated.

Officials stated that the positive environmental sample was detected in Karachi East.

“The province has made significant progress in reducing poliovirus circulation, driven by strong community support and collective efforts; a total of 21 samples across Sindh have tested negative while seven are under process,” a statement released by EOC, Sindh, says.

“The progress achieved is the result of the continued support and trust of communities, alongside the dedication of frontline workers and government partners,” it adds. According to officials, the peak poliovirus transmission season has begun and population movement remains a risk factor for virus transmission.
