KARACHI: City Commissioner Syed Hasan Naqvi on Tuesday visited the route of the main Ashura processions to review law and order, security and civic arrangements.

Accompanied by Karachi police chief Azad Khan and other officials, the commissioner conducted a detailed review of security, cleanliness, civic services and overall administrative arrangements, a spokesperson said.

Officials gave him a detailed briefing on security measures and the provision of civic facilities during Muharram processions and majalis.

The commissioner was also briefed on work carried out in connection with Muharram, including road repairs, redressal of sewerage complaints, removal of encroachments along procession routes and installation of streetlights.

He directed the relevant officers to maintain close coordination with organisers of processions and majalis, remain present in the field and ensure the provision of facilities in consultation with them.

The commissioner was informed that comprehensive security measures had been put in place for all processions, including the main Ashura procession, under a well-coordinated strategy.

The officials also informed him that the required number of CCTV cameras had been installed and control rooms established for surveillance. They added that additional control rooms would also be set up at the offices of deputy commissioners and DIGs.

The commissioner was informed that arrangements for medical aid, water distribution points (sabeels), toilets and parking facilities had been made at procession and majlis venues.
