KARACHI: The Women’s Action Forum (WAF), Karachi, has expressed demanded justice for Fehmida Leghari, a third-year medical student who died by suicide in Mirpurkhas under controversial circumstance.

According to a statement, WAF has demanded that an independent, transparent and impartial inquiry into all allegations of harassment, bullying and institutional failures be carried out.

“Given the seriousness of the allegations and the conflicting accounts presented by the family and the educational institution, there remains a strong public interest in ensuring a thorough, transparent, and evidence-based investigation.

“Such an inquiry should examine all available documentation, witness testimony, CCTV footage, electronic records, and forensic evidence so that responsibility, if any, can be fairly determined and public confidence in the process can be maintained,” the statement concluded.

According to information provided by her family, Fehmida had allegedly been subjected to harassment and blackmail by an instructor who reportedly demanded Rs40,000 in exchange for passing an examination. The family further states that the individual was commonly referred to as a doctor despite not being a qualified medical doctor. He remains under police custody after the FIR was lodged.
