A fresh excuse

LAHORE, July 11: Rain on Tuesday brought fleeting relief to the people, which was followed by increased humidity and continued tripping, fluctuations and breakdowns. According to Lesco officials, though there was no loadshedding with the drop of over 1,000mw at the national level, rain caused its own set of problems for the people who continued suffering as usual.

Windy weather, they said, made wires swing, sometimes touching one another, and causing interruptions. Tree branches also caused earth fault and interrupted power supply. All these troubles hit the city after the rain, they said.

The routine minor trippings (for less than 20 minutes) dropped from over 300 to under 150 on Tuesday but they did not provide any visible relief to the consumer, they admitted. The worst hit areas were those inside the Walled City and along the canal where tree branches continued causing problems.

“Tuesday’s rain proved that all distribution problems of Lesco are not restricted to overloading of its system,” said Muhammad Rafi of Samanabad. He said since there was no accountability of professional standards, the distribution companies found it easy to put all the blame on anything.
