HYDERABAD, July 11: The syndicate of the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology in a meeting presided over by the vice-chancellor on Tuesday approved budgetary estimates of Rs545 million for the fiscal 2006-07 with a deficit of Rs157 million.

The syndicate also approved the revised budget of Rs397.076 million for the year 2005-06.

The meeting noted that Rs157 million deficit was largely due to inadequate government grant, increase in tariff on utility bills, fuel expenses and reduction in bank profit.

The meeting appreciated HEC Chairman Prof Attaur Rehman for extending financial support for ongoing research activities and urged the HEC to enhance recurring grant to enable the university to meet increasing requirements as well as deficit.

MPA and Chairman Public Accounts Committee Jam Madad Ali, Sindh Public Service Commission Chairman Mohammed Hassan Bhutto, Advisor to HEC on R&D Altaf G Shaikh, Professor Emeritus Dr Haji Mehmood Memon, Faculty of Engineering Dean Dr Mohammad Ibrahim Pathan, Professor Dr Abdul Karim Baloch, Registrar Dr Mohammad Aslam Uqaili and Finance Director Munir A Shaikh attended the meeting.

EXAMS: The MUET on Tuesday announced that supplementary examinations (theory) of 2nd term (99-05 batches), 4th term (99-04 bathes), 6th term (99-03 batches), 8th term (99-02 batches) of Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of City and Regional Planning (CRP) and Bachelor of Architecture and 10th term (98-01-bathes) of Bachelor of Architecture would begin from August 28 between 1 pm to 4 pm in the university.

The last date for the submission of examination forms was August 17 without late fee and August 22 with late fee.

LUMHS: The additional controller of examinations of Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS), Jamshoro announced on Tuesday that MCQ theory programme of third professional BDS annual examination 2006 would be held from July 28 to August 1 at the LUMHS.

He said that the last date for the submission of examination forms for the second professional MBBS bi-annual examination 2006 in LUMHS Jamshoro, Chandka Medical College, Larkana and People’s Medical College for Girls, Nawabshah was July 25 without late fee and August 1 with late fee of Rs200.

ISRA: Isra University announced on Tuesday that the last date for the submission of application forms for admission to various degree programmes including Nursing, Medical Science, Business Administration, Information Technology, Telecommunication and Computers Science was August 26.

The admission kit which included an application form, prospectus and other information could be obtained from Isra University Campus or concerned bank for Rs500, said the university.
