TOBA TEK SINGH: Two suspects were killed and as many others were injured in different parts of the province in encounters with police.
In an alleged encounter with the Jhang Saddar Police, a robber-cum-drug dealer was killed and three others were arrested late on Tuesday night. Police claimed that during a raid, a team led by SHO Faisal Razak Kahlon came under fire in Mouza Bundi Sialanwala in the limits of Qadirpur police station.
Police claimed that one Johnny Noon was injured by a bullet from his accomplices and later died in the hospital. The police also claimed to have arrested Naeem, Taufiq and Omar Daraz and recovered weapons from their possession. Police said that they were wanted in cases of robbery, drug smuggling and police encounters.
Meanwhile, the family of the deceased staged a protest outside the Jhang DHQ Hospital and blocked traffic while chanting slogans against the police.
They alleged that this was a ‘fake’ encounter and Noon was killed after being arrested.
They demanded a judicial inquiry for a transparent and impartial investigation into the encounter and a case be registered against the officials.
GUJRAT: The Gujranwala Police claimed that a wanted suspect was killed in an encounter by the firing of his own accomplices in the Garjakh Police precinct on Wednesday.
A police spokesperson claimed that armed suspects had opened fire at a police picket in the Garjaakh area and when the firing stopped, a dead body was found. The deceased was later identified as Waqar, who was wanted in 25 cases of robbery and theft. The suspect, he said, was also involved in an encounter with the Gujranwala Crime Control Department (CCD).
Police claimed to have recovered a weapon from the crime scene and said that his three accomplices managed to flee as further investigations were underway.
OKARA: Police claimed that a Cantt night patrolling team was positioned near village 11/4L at the Shahbore Road when they signalled three men on an unregistered motorcycle to stop. However, the police claimed that they tried to flee while opening fire on the team.
When the firing stopped, the police claimed to find one suspect injured by the bullets of his escaping accomplices. Police claimed to have recovered Rs200,000 cash, 4 tola gold jewellery, a motorcycle and a weapon with two bullets.
The suspect was identified as Abdullah, a resident of Dubai Town, and he was shifted to the DHQ Hospital.
In another encounter, police claimed a Gogera Police patrolling team received information that three suspects on a bike had refused to stop at a police picket and were heading towards the Jakkhar Chowk. Police claimed the suspects opened fire at the chasing police party and were heading towards the Faisalabad-Khalsa Road.
Police claimed that after some time, when the suspects stopped firing, the police found an injured man, who introduced himself as Muhammad Nawaz Wattoo from village 45/GD. Police claimed that he also disclosed that his two accomplices were Muhammad Saleem and Bahu from the same village. The police recovered a weapon with one live bullet and the injured suspect was shifted to the DHQ Hospital.
