KARACHI, July 10: A guard of Sunni Tehreek chief Sarwat Qadri was shot dead by unknown persons in Malir in the small hours of Monday. Police said the body of Irshad Qadri, 40, was found near Bagh-i-Malir where his vehicle (CG-9481) was also found parked. Police also found the victim’s TT pistol and cellphone on the spot.

Police said that according to initial reports, Irshad Qadri left the Sunni Tehreek head office around Fajr prayer time in his hi-roof, reportedly without telling his associates where he was going.

Police said apparently the victim was taken out of his vehicle and then shot in the head.

Police said the victim had suffered two bullet wounds in the head. His body was sent to the Jinnah Hospital for post-mortem examination.

A large number of ST activists gathered in the Jinnah Hospital after the body was taken there.

Following the killing, shops and commercial activities in the city centre were forced to close by protesting youths.

In Orangi Town, an activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement was shot dead by unknown persons late Sunday night.

Police said Mohammad Ramazan, 36, a former unit chief of the Pak Colony sector was headed to his home in Orangi Town when unknown persons opened fire at him near Aligarh Bazaar.

Police said the victim died on the spot and his body was sent to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Police said the victim was married and had three children.
