LARKANA: A former station house officer (SHO) of the Naudero police station was sentenced to two-year imprisonment for unlawfully arresting and torturing a vendor, and causing permanent loss of his one eye.

According to the victim’s counsel, Faheem Khan Mahar was arrested on May 31, 2023 by the then SHO, Shahid Sadiq Memon, and subjected to torture in custody at the behest of one, Abdul Malik Kumbhar. Due to the torture, Faheem Mahar permanently lost his one eye, they stated, and produced some medical reports and other evidence.

The case was first filed before a civil judge and judicial magistrate of Ratodero. Subsequently, it was transferred to the court of the Fourth Additional Judge of Larkana Abdul Haseeb Abro. Advocate Altaf Hussain Mirani and Riaz Hussain Mirani represented the applicant.

After recording the statements of witnesses and hearing the prosecution and defence during the trial, Judge Abdul Haseeb Abro pronounced his judgement.

According to the judgement, the complainant succeeded in proving the charges against former SHO Shahid Sadiq Memon beyond any shadow of doubt. The judge sentenced him to a two-year rigorous imprisonment.

The judge said that the complainant has, however, failed to prove the charges against Abdul Malik Kumbhar, who was acquitted.

Soon after pronouncement of the judgement, Shahid Sadiq Memon, was taken into custody and escorted to the Larkana Central Prison to serve out the jail term.
