LONDON: Britain today [June 8] began giving assurances to India, Pakistan and Ban­gladesh that the Government is anxious to ease racial tensions, informed sources said. Mr. B.C. Neh­ru, Indian High Commissioner in London, cal­led on Mr. Evan Luard, a Parlia­­mentary Und­er-Secretary of State … this morning to dis­­­cuss race relations. The British Minister was also having talks later today with the Pakistan Ambassador here, Mian Mumtaz Daultana. … Last week there have been several angry clashes between White and Asian immigrant groups in Southall, South-West London. Mr. Luard was reassuring the envoys that the Government was concerned about the racial tensions and conscious of the worry felt by the foreign Governments.

[Meanwhile, as reported by news agencies from Cairo,] King Khalid of Saudi Arabia urged all Arabs yesterday [June 7] to work for ending the Lebanon civil war, warning that the “fire of this raging sedition” would spread to every Arab country unless it was extinguished soon. In a broadcast over Saudi radio, King Khalid said: “All Arab brothers should work to end the bloodshed in Lebanon, should exercise patience, and be guided by reason and wisdom. …”
