LAHORE: The Cabinet Committee for Law and Order on Monday visited Faisalabad and held a meeting with the Divisional Peace Committee and Ulema to review security arrangements for Muharram.
Led by committee chairman Khwaja Salman Rafique, provincial ministers Bilal Yasin, Malik Sohaib Ahmad Bharath and Bilal Akbar Khan, Auqaf secretary Dr Ehsan Bhutta, CTD Additional IG Wasim Sial, Additional IG Imran Arshad and others attended the meeting.
Faisalabad Commissioner Musarrat Jabeen and Regional Police Officer (RPO) Suhail Akhtar Sukhera briefed the meeting about the security arrangements planned for 4,402 Majalis and 1,528 morning processions during Muharram.
They said that 166 firebrand speakers had been restrained within the district, while 116 others had been gagged. In Faisalabad, some 328 persons had been categorised in the Fourth Schedule, they added.
The officials said security was being provided as per plan to 10,707 mosques, 653 Imambargahs and 1,576 madaris (seminaries).
They said army’s 12 companies and Rangers’ 10 companies would also perform security duty during Muharram.
The ministers stressed that the Ulema must stress peace during Muharram in their Juma sermons.
