Fair elections vital for stability: JI

HYDERABAD: Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Naib Emir Liaquat Baloch has said that unless free and fair elections are held, economic and political stability will keep eluding the country.

He was addressing party workers during a membership campaign in the Fakir Ka Pir locality and speaking to members of the party’s political committee at an academy here on Saturday.

Mr Baloch expressed his concern over the economic challenges, price hike and increasing tariffs of gas and electricity. He said that the levy of heavy taxes was, in fact, a matter of grave concern.

He stated that the poor segment was badly suffering due to government’s “flawed economic policy”, and added that the JI was raising its voice at all forums. He claimed that the masses were fed up with the conventional and hereditary politics. He observed that heavy electricity and gas tariffs had made the lives of people miserable. Political instability had created a sense of insecurity among people, he said.

The JI leader demanded holding of free, fair and transparent general elections in the country. “It’s the only option to ensure political and economic stability in the country,” he said.
