National karate from today

ISLAMABAD, July 7: The National women's karate ranking championship is due to begin at the Pakistan Sports Complex from Saturday.

The two-day championship will feature teams from Army, Wapda, Railways, Police, Punjab, Sindh, NWFP, Balochistan and Islamabad.

Being organized by the Pakistan Karate Federation, there will be competitions in individual kumite below 44 kg, below 48 kg, below 53 kg, below 60 kg, individual kata and team kata.

The objective of staging the championship is to select the top players for next month's South Asian Games in Colombo.

Col. Shujaat Ali Rana, secretary Army Sports Directorate has been nominated as the chairman of the selection committee.
