ISLAMABAD: Expressing concern over escalating tensions in different regions of the world, particularly developments that risk widening conflicts and threatening international stability, Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gilani on Saturday underlined that dialogue, diplomacy, and responsible leadership remained the only sustainable path toward peace.
Addressing a gathering in Jhelum, the Senate chairman appreciated the diplomatic efforts of Pakistan’s political and military leadership aimed at reducing international tensions, preventing escalation, and promoting regional and global peace.
He emphasised that Pakistan had consistently advocated dialogue, restraint, and peaceful resolution of disputes through diplomacy and international engagements. Welcoming the ongoing dialogue between the US and Iran, he expressed the hope that the negotiations would lead to positive outcomes and contribute to regional and international stability. He also prayed for the success of these diplomatic efforts, underscoring the importance of constructive engagement in advancing lasting peace and mutual understanding.
The Senate chairman observed that increasing global tensions and geopolitical instability had intensified economic pressures, inflation, and uncertainty worldwide, affecting developing countries, including Pakistan. He emphasised that protecting ordinary citizens from economic hardship remained a national priority and reaffirmed that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) supported policies focused on public welfare and economic relief.
He further stated that constructive and practical recommendations would be presented in connection with the upcoming budget to ensure maximum relief for the people and strengthen economic resilience.
Mr Gilani stated that Islam was a religion of peace, compassion, moderation, and harmony, and rejected attempts by certain elements to distort its true image by associating Muslims with extremism and violence. He stressed that the overwhelming majority of Muslims across the world seek peaceful coexistence and uphold values of mutual respect and human dignity.
