TEHERAN: Deputy Premier Hussein Fatemi declared in Teheran this morning [June 4] that today was the absolute deadline for the appearance here of Anglo Iranian Oil Company representatives. [“] If they do not turn up today, the Government cannot delay its enforcement of the law,” he said. Meanwhile, Foreign Secretary Herbert Morrison said in London today that Britain had again made it clear she could not accept … that the oil dispute was solely between the Iranian Government and the Anglo-Iranian Company.

Britain had emphasised … [it] had every right to intervene in the matter, he told the House of Commons. The fact had been stressed that the Government was the largest majority shareholder in the Company. Mr Morrison added that the Government ... hoped the Company’s mission might arrive at a satisfactory settlement.

[News agencies from London add,] It is estimated that 3,000 men of the 15th Independent Parachute brigade, sparked by their new motto “Ready for anything”, left here on Monday [June 4] en route to Cyprus where they will be held in readiness for any outbreak of violence in Iranian oilfields.
