GUJRAT: An official of Gujranwala Crime Control Department (CCD) was shot at and injured by the firing of a dacoit during a raid as the suspect escaped the arrest in Qila Deedar Singh police precincts on Wednesday.

A spokesman for Gujranwala CCD said a team raided a house on a tip-off to arrest a wanted criminal namely Fayaz alias Feji but he hid in a neighbouring house from where he tried to flee.

He was intercepted by two police officials present in the back street and the suspect opened fire as a result a bullet hit CCD official Waleed whereas the assailant managed to flee.

The injured official was shifted to the Gujranwala medical college teaching hospital where doctors termed his condition stable.

The wanted suspect, he said, was involved in a number of robbery incidents in Lahore, Sheikhupura and Gujranwala whereas he had also committed dacoities before the Eidul Azha in the precincts of Gujranwala city’s various police stations.

The CCD and Gujranwala police have launched a search operation to arrest the fleeing suspect.

A case has also been lodged.
