HYDERABAD: Office-bearers of the Sindh Taraqqi-pasand Party have called for the safe recovery of Mr Saeed Memon, an excise officer and author, who was abducted in Balochistan on May 17.

Speaking at a news conference at the local press club on Monday, STP Vice Chairman Hyder Shahani, Dr Soomar Mangrio and others said that Mr Memon was kidnapped in Balochistan and since then there has been no progress as far as his recovery effort was concerned. He said that the party chairman has spoken to Balochistan-based political parties and nationalist leaders in this regard, but unfortunately no information could be received.

They said Mr Memon is an intellectual and writer, and he comes from a family that has been active in Sindh’s nationalist struggle. They said he is the brother of STP’s Deputy Secretary General Dr Hameed Memon and pointed out that Sindh and Balochistan have been part of a joint struggle for their rights, involving their core issues.

They appealed to Baloch leadership to ensure safe recovery of Mr Memon. They urged the Sindh and Balochistan governments to take notice of the incident and take steps accordingly.

They announced that the STP would hold protest in Nawabshah on June 3, Tando Mohammad Khan on June 4 and Hyderabad on June 6. More protests would be held on other dates of the current month in Sindh, they said.

Meanwhile, a delegation of Sindh Memon Ittehad met Qaumi Awami Tehreek chief Ayaz Latif Palijo to discuss recovery of Mr Memon. Palijo assured the delegation of his assistance in the matter.

Advocate Sahar Ayaz Palijo, Advocate Sarbaz Ayaz Palijo and Josh Ayaz Palijo were also present.
