KARACHI: “Minorities Week” is being celebrated throughout the country from today [June 1]. Beginning with early morning prayers and formal inaugural functions later in the day, the week will be marked with a series of seminars and symposia, Meena Bazars, Melas, sports events, rallies and cultural shows etc. At all the places, programmes have been chalked out in consultation with the representatives of the minority communities and arrangements have been made for widespread participation of the members of the minority communities of all age groups. The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, has issued a message on this occasion. — Staff reporter

[Meanwhile, according to Dawn’s Islam­abad Bureau,] The National Assembly began its Budget session here this afternoon [May 31] with only one item on the order of the day — a Bill seeking to amend the Quaid-e-Azam’s Mazar (Protection and Maintenance) which was passed after a brief discussion. There were no questions and no adjournment or any other motion on the day’s agenda and the Opposition only made its presence felt when Prof. Ghafoor Ahmed raised some minor obj­ections [to] the Bill on the Quaid-i-Azam’s Mazar… .
