KARACHI: A man was killed and five others, including a foreigner, were injured when two cars collided in Defence Housing Authority (DHA) on Sunday.

South DIG Syed Asad Raza said that two cars (registration numbers CC-61-19 and AWU-075) collided near the Shaheen signal on Khayaban-i-Badar.

As a result, one person, identified as Shahzad, 45, was killed. A Russian citizen, Maxim, 40, Alishba, 28, Aini, 25, Bilal Ramzan, 22, and an unidentified woman aged around 25 were injured.

The dead and injured were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC). The deceased driver originally hailed from Punjab.

Police said the foreigner was an employee of the Russian consulate in Karachi.

Darakhshan SHO Rashid Ali told Dawn that the deceased, Shahzad, was a driver for a rent-a-car service and was transporting three women, while the foreigner was driving the consulate’s vehicle.

He said the condition of the injured women was out of danger. The foreigner was later shifted to a hospital in Clifton after receiving first aid.

The SHO said both parties visited the Darakhshan police station and reached an agreement not to pursue the matter legally.

Speeding claims lives of two bikers

Two men riding a motorbike were killed when their two-wheeler went out of control due to speeding and hit a footpath on the Lyari Expressway near Al-Asif Square.

A traffic police official said as a result, they sustained critical injuries and died on the spot. The deceased were identified as Liaquat Husain, 30, and Bahadur Hasan, 32.

In another incident, a man was killed while two others were injured when a car hit a pole on the Lyari Expressway within the limits of the Pak Colony police station.

Area SHO Faisal Gul Khawaja said that the car driver tried to avoid hitting the motorcycle riders, but the vehicle went out of control and crashed into a pole.

As a result, Tufail Naseeb, 25, was killed, while Junaid Shakoor, 25, and Iftikhar Aziz, 35, were injured.

The condition of one of the injured persons was serious.
