SUKKUR, July 6: The Sukkur bench of the Sindh High Court has ordered the Khairpur DPO and SP Investigation, and the SHO of the Thari Mir Wah to produce a local girl, Shamshad Bhambhan, and her husband Khalid Shar in the court on July 7.

Justice Ali Sain Dino Maitlo issued the orders on Thursday on a petition filed by Mohammad Saleh Shar through his advocate Ghulam Shabbir Shar.

The petitioner stated that Shamshad Bhambhan had married with Khalid Shar of her own free will, but police had handed over Shamshad to the elders of the Bhambhan community, who had declared her kari through a jirga.

The petitioner feared that the elders of the Bhambhan community might kill her.

The court ordered the police officers to produce the couple and the elders of the Bhambhan community, Kashif, Pervaiz, Akram, and Fakir Sikandar Ali, before the court on July 7, 2006.

Shamshad Bhambhan married to Khalid Shar on her own will on April 22, 2006, after receiving divorce from Sabbir Hussain in a court of Karachi. She has two daughters Afshan and Saba from Shabbir.

However, the elders declared the newly-wed couple karo-kari.

PETITION DISMISSED:The Sukkur bench of the Sindh High Court has allowed a newly-wed couple, Asma and Nadeem Mughal, to live as husband and wife.

The mother of the girl, Pushpa, filed a petition that her daughter was only 16 and had not attained puberty.

But Asma told the court that she had embraced Islam and married with Nadeem Mughal of her own free will, and wanted to live with the husband.

The court dismissed the petition, allowed the couple to live together and ordered the Sukkur police to provide protection to them.
