KOHAT, July 6: The government is nearing its end because of its anti-poor policies and rampant corruption, says former chief minister and president of PML(N) in NWFP Pir Sabir Shah.

He was addressing a party workers’ convention here on Wednesday.

Terming the signing of the charter of democracy a significant milestone in the country’s history, he said it would stop military interventions in national politics.

Blaming generals for the chaos in the region, the PML-N leader said that it was they never wanted to liberate Kashmir or see stability in Afghanistan. He accused them of stigmatising politicians, engineering sham democratic rules and economic crisis and said this state of affairs had made the world to call Pakistan a failed state.

He said that the military had failed to play its constitutional role, which is only to protect the country’s borders.

Agents of the US and other foreign countries were making policies about tribal areas and Balochistan while the generals were just playing the role of silent spectators.

He called upon the government to quit because of the sugar crisis and steel mills privatisation issue and said these scandals had exposed the prime minister and other ruling party leaders but they could not be taken to task.

Former PML-N MNA Javed Ibraheem Paracha, former provincial minister Fazal Subhan Khan, Sher Zaman Takkar and district president Sher Khan Bangash also addressed the meeting.
