KHYBER: A police official was martyred when unidentified assailants opened fire on him in Bara tehsil of Khyber district on Friday.

The police said that unidentified gunmen riding a motorcycle opened indiscriminate fire on Akkakhel Shah in Kalanga locality of Akkakhel, killing him on the spot.

The assailants managed to escape after the incident, the police said. They said that SP Bara circle Nawab Gul, along with a contingent, immediately arrived at the scene, cordoned off the area and launched a search operation for the fleeing assailants.

The police also gathered evidence from the site and started further investigation after registering a case against the unknown armed men.

No one claimed responsibility for the killing.
