HYDERABAD, July 5: The People’s Party Parliamentarians and the PPP-SB on Wednesday observed a black day in Sindh to condemn the overthrow on this day in 1977 the first democratically elected government of prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto by Gen Zia-ul-Haq.

Youth, women and student wings of the PPP took out a procession from the party secretariat.

Wearing black armbands and carrying placards, protesters marched on roads chanting slogans against Gen Zia. The procession turned into a rally at the Hyderabad Press Club.

Party MNA Syed Ameer Ali Shah Jamote, MPA Zahid Ali Bhurgari, Moula Bux Chandio, Illahi Bux Kaimkhani, Syed Fayaz Ali Shah, youth wing leader Aajiz Dhamrah were leading protesters.

Speakers on the occasion, spoke at length about the atrocities unleashed against party workers following what they called the murder of Z.A.Bhutto.

THATTA: Here PPP activists took out a procession in protest.

They also condemned the registration of a case against some PPP leaders, including leader of the opposition in Sindh Assembly, Nisar Ahmed Khuhro.

Meanwhile, a PPP dissident group did not participated in the protest, but they also wore black armbands and marched on streets, separately.

NAWABSHAH: Activists of the People’s Party Parliamentarians and PPP-SB here took out processions and staged demonstrations.

PPP MPA and acting district president Ghulam Qadir Chandio led the procession that started from the PPP office of Gharibabad and ended at Chakra Bazaar.

NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: Around 100 PPP activists here staged a rally to observe the black day.

District PPP general secretary Syed Karam Ali Shah took out the procession from the district office, which, after marching on different roads, reached the press club.

JACOBABAD: The PPP and PPP-SB observed the black day. Activists of the PPP started their procession from the city office while those of the PPP-SB from their local office. Carrying banners and placards, and wearing black armbands, they marched on various roads.

They reached the press club and staged a sit-in and observed a token hunger strike for one hour.

MIRPURKHAS: Local chapter of the People’s Party observed the black day by taking a procession from its city office.

Protesters wearing black armbands marched on main roads and reached Market chowk raising slogans for the release of detained PPP activist Junaid Buland.
