HYDERABAD: Sindh Health Minister Dr Azra Pechuho has stated that every patient’s life is important and that healthcare officials, doctors and workers must perform their duties dedicatedly to protect people from diseases and infections.
She emphasised that no negligence would be tolerated regarding hygiene protocols. She expressed these views while addressing an awareness session on hygiene and infection control organised by the health department in DC Office here on Tuesday.
DG Health Sindh Dr Waqar Mehmood, DC Zain-ul-Abedin Memon, DHO Dr Pir Ghulam Hussain, health officers, doctors, and healthcare workers attended the seminar.
Experts highlighted issues related to spread of infections, hospital cleanliness, waste management, sanitisation, hygiene, disinfection of surfaces and safe patient care.
The minister pointed out that adopting WHO-standard and hygiene and sanitisation practices could reduce infection risks. She warned that reuse of contaminated syringes could spread dangerous diseases including Hepatitis-B, Hepatitis-C, and HIV, therefore only safe and properly sterilised syringes should be used.
She announced formation of special monitoring committees to inspect hygiene conditions and implementation of SOPs in hospitals. These committees would conduct morning and evening visits to monitor cleanliness, hospital waste management, sanitisation, washrooms and staff hygiene standards. She warned that negligence or carelessness would not be tolerated.
