DHAKA: Bangladesh opener Shadman Islam has been ruled out of the second and final Test against Pakistan after suffering a chest injury, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed on Thursday.

Shadman has been replaced in the squad by fellow left-hander Zakir Hasan. The 28-year-old last featured in a Test match during Bangladesh’s tour of the West Indies in November 2024.

The second Test begins on Saturday in Sylhet.

National team physio Bayjedul Islam Khan said Shadman sustained the injury while attempting a catch during the first Test in Dhaka.

“Shadman took a blow in the chest while taking a catch during the first Test in Mirpur. He has a traumatic contusion of the chest and is in pain. He will not be available for the second Test unfortunately,” Bayjedul said.

Shadman scored 13 and 10 in the opening Test which the hosts won by 104 runs at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.

Zakir, who has played 13 Tests for Bangladesh, has registered four half-centuries and one century in the format. However, the left-hander has failed to score a fifty in his last 13 Test innings.

Despite his struggles at international level, Zakir has shown signs of form in domestic cricket, scoring both a century and a half-century for Dhaka Leopards in the ongoing Dhaka Premier League.
