SIALKOT, Oct 17: The National Accountability Bureau on Tuesday restarted a probe against former mayor Sheikh Zafar Iqbal Anand for his Rs150 million bungling.

Official sources alleged the former mayor had also embezzled millions of rupees by illegally allotting the state land and property to his cronies. He also appointed several employees in violation of the merit policy.

The NAB also recorded the statements of various corporation employees in this regard.

Earlier, the NAB had initiated a probe against the mayor about a year ago, but it was suspended due to its slow pace.

TWO BROTHERS CRUSHED: Two brothers, both labourers, were crushed under the wheels of a speeding bus near Pasrur Sugar Mills on the Sialkot-Pasrur Road on Wednesday.

Asif and Atif were travelling on the roof of the overcrowded bus. The overhanging branches of a tree made them fall on the road, and they were crushed under the wheels of the speeding bus.

Meanwhile, a boy, Asadullah, 12, was also hit to death by a speeding car (STJ-9901) on the Daska-Hajipura Road, Sialkot city,

Police have registered cases against the fleeing drivers.

SUCCUMBED TO INJURIES: Another woman, Sughra Bibi, 46, who was injured in Indian shelling, died on Tuesday in the Combined Military Hospital, Sialkot.

Sughra Bibi, 46, was injured seriously in intensified shelling by Indian troops on bordering Looni village of the Sialkot working boundary’s Bajwat sector on Monday night.

Official sources said that Chenab Rangers thwarted three major Indian attempts of fencing near the working boundary, destroying enemy’s two big defensive pillars near Bajwat and Jammu sectors.

IMPORT ORDERS: The US-based sports company, Addidas, has hinted at cancelling its all import orders in the wake of rising air strikes on Afghanistan.

In a press release issued here on Wednesday, the country representative of Addidas, Mr N Pitts, feared that import orders might be shifted to Indian and China.

Presently, the Addidas is importing two million soccer balls annually from Sialkot’s four leading soccer ball manufacturing firms. Under the prevailing situation, export orders of millions of soccer balls for the forthcoming football world cup also seem bleak.

ELECTED: Chaudhry Yahiya Gul Nawaz advocate was elected Nazim in the by-election of the union council 85, Daska town.

Mr Yahiya secured 2,120 votes while his opponents Arif Bhatti and Akram Chcheena could manage 1,763 and 652 votes, respectively.

In Bhagatpur (Satrah) union council, Muhammad Siddique and Muhammad Asif were elected Nazim and Naib Nazim, respectively.

In Charwa UC, Chaudhry Karamat Ali was elected Nazim. He got 2,787 votes.

In Kummanwala UC, Chaudhry Sagheer Ahmad was elected Nazim by securing 3,889 votes, and in Maalipur UC (Pasrur), Khalid Mehmood was elected Nazim by bagging 3,474 votes.
