TAXILA: A man has gunned down his wife over a domestic dispute in Dhok Sheikhan in the vicinity of Sarwala Union Council in Attock on Saturday, police and family sources said.

According to details, the tragic incident occurred when the accused reportedly arrived at his in-laws’ house in an attempt to reconcile with his estranged wife and take her back home.

Family members stated that the woman refused to accompany him, which enraged the suspect. In a fit of anger, the husband allegedly opened fire on his wife, killing her on the spot.

Police reached the scene after being informed and shifted the body for medico-legal formalities. A search has been launched for the accused, who fled the scene after the incident. Further investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, Attock Khurd Police on Saturday thwarted a major inter-provincial drug smuggling attempt and recovered more than 10 kilograms of hashish during a successful operation against narcotics trafficking.

According to police sources, the operation was conducted under the supervision of Inspector Khanzada Shahroze. During a check at the Search Park area of Attock Khurd, police intercepted a passenger van and carried out a search operation.

During the search, police recovered over 10 kilograms of hashish skillfully concealed inside clothes in a bag carried by Wajid Ali, a resident of Peshawar.

Police said the recovered narcotics were allegedly being smuggled from K-P to Punjab. A case has been registered against the accused under the Anti-Narcotics Act, while further investigation is underway to trace other members of the smuggling network.

Separately, Hassanabdal Police arrested a drug peddler identified as Abdul Rehman, a native of Swabi and recovered 1,550 grams of opium from his possession.
