KARACHI: Police on Thursday claimed to have arrested 23 suspects in a crackdown on illegal shisha cafes and guest houses in DHA, Clifton, Boat Basin, Darakshan and Gizri areas.

Hookahs, flavours and other banned items were also seized during the raids.

The Boat Basin police said they conducted a raid in Clifton, Block-5, arrested three suspects and recovered seven hookahs. The Darakshan and Gizri police raided illegal guest houses and hookah bars and arrested 11 suspects, including four women. One of the held women allegedly provided Ice (meth) to dance parties. Cases have been registered against the arrested suspects.

Gang of street criminals busted

Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) on Thursday busted a gang of street criminals, a statement said.

It added that acting on a tip-off, the paramilitary force conducted raids in Niaz Manzil, North Nazimabad, and arrested five suspects, who were members of a gang of street criminals.

The held suspects were identified as Gulfam alias Sunny, Mohammed Shan, Daud, Ashraf alias Pannu and Ismail Mikael. One 30-bore pistol without a license, two 9mm pistols, five cell phones and cash were recovered from their custody.
