KARACHI: A man was found shot dead near a shrine in Memon Goth, on the outskirts of the metropolis, on Thursday.

According to police, the body was found dumped near Dargah (shrine) Ibrahim Shah.

It was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where the victim was identified as Masood Ahmed, 55.

SHO Chan Mohammed of the local police station said the victim was a resident of Khokhrapar-5, Malir. He quoted the bereaved family as telling the police that Masood had left his residence at 6pm on Wednesday. He was wearing a T-shirt and Shalwar. His body with a bullet wound visible on his abdomen was found dumped on an open plot near the Soomar Kandar locality.

The victim was a driver by profession. The officer suspected some personal enmity as a possible motive behind the murder.

In another incident, a man was shot dead in Kaneez Fatima Society in the early hours of Thursday.

Sachal police said that the victim, identified as Wahendo Mondo, 50, was killed by unknown suspects near Khatm-i-Nabuwwat roundabout.

The police believed the murder was motivated by some personal enmity.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for legal formalities.

Two mechanics drown in well

Two mechanics drowned in a well near Jail Chowrangi on Thursday evening while a volunteer trying to take them out was rescued, according to rescue services.

Rescue-1122 spokesperson Hassaan Ul Haseeb Khan said that the incident took place while the mechanics were busy fixing some fault in the electrical motor inside the drinking water well near Aligarh College. He said initially, one person descended into the well to fix the issue. He fell unconscious after inhailing some toxic gas inside. One of his colleagues tried to save him but he also fell unconscious. A third person, a volunteer, tried to pull them out but he was also affected by the toxic gas. Mr Khan said that a rescue team, however, managed to take the volunteer out but the two mechanics had already died during the operation.

The deceased technicians were identified as Ibrahim, 40, and Haji Ali, 50.
