TORONTO, July 1: Reiterating his resolve to hold free and fair elections in Pakistan, Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retired) Qazi Mohammad Farooq said here on Friday that there would be no two opinions about the fairness of the polls.

“We are determined to hold clean and transparent elections,” he said during an interview with Dawn at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport prior to his departure for home. Mr Farooq was here on a seven-day official visit to study Canada’s election system.

Describing his tour productive and useful, the CEC said he got the opportunity to share views with Canadian officials on election arrangements.

He dispelled the notion that Pakistan was facing any foreign pressure for fair and impartial election. “We are not under any pressure.

However, it’s our duty to hold fair election as envisaged in our constitution. And insha’allah the polls will be clean and fair. There should be no two opinions about that,” he said emphatically.
