TEHERAN: The Iranian Parliament approved unanimously on Saturday night [April 28] the bill nationalising the nation’s oil and called on the government to dispossess the British-controlled “late” Anglo-Iranian oil company immediately. In a 71/½-hour session, longest in the Iranian Parliament’s history, the Parliament asked for the formation of a mixed Government and Parliament Commission to look into “possible” claims by either the Government or the Oil Company.

First Article of the Resolution passed by the Iranian Parliament reads: “To implement the decision of the Houses of Parliament for oil nationalisation throughout the country, a Mixed Liquidation Committee be elected consisting of five Majlis Deputies, five Senators, the Minister of Finance and another Minister together with another Government representative.”

The first Article was voted and passed with an amendment reducing the number of members on the Liquidation Committee from 12 to 11. An influential group of the Parliament Deputies charged … that “mysterious hand” was exploiting the dispute over oil nationalisation to foment violence and discontent throughout Iran. — News agencies
