US General Dan Caine, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, has said that the president only employs national force based on situations in which he deems it necessary.
Washington’s top general is responding to questions about three carrier strike groups present in the Middle East and any potential gaps their deployment may create elsewhere.
“I’m confident that the president always carefully considers these readiness trade-offs, and I’m sure he has done so in this case based on the military options we’ve presented,” he tells the House Armed Services Committee.
