Civilian killed, two injured in Bannu incidents

BANNU: A civilian was killed, and a policeman and his daughter were injured when unknown assailants opened fire on them in separate incidents here on Sunday, the police said.

A 50-year-old man, Afzal Khan, was shot dead by unknown armed men near the Hindikhel area of Janikhel.

According to police, the victim was targeted while he was present near the roadside. Police reached the scene, shifted the body to the hospital, and, after legal formalities, handed it over to the family. A case has been registered, and efforts are underway to trace the suspects.

Separately, unidentified motorcyclists opened fire near the Shahdev area, injuring a police head constable, Zahid Khan, and his five-year-old daughter, Zoya Gul. Both were immediately shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital. The attackers managed to flee, while police have registered a case and initiated an investigation.

Meanwhile, the bomb disposal squad defused an improvised explosive device in the jurisdiction of Kakki police station, averting a major tragedy through timely action.
