‘Youth dies as pistol goes off’

GUJRAT: A 20-year-old youth died as a pistol his friend was handling went off in Wada Pind village of the Karianwala police area on Sunday.

Police said the two friends, Hasan Ali and Asad Ali, were handling a pistol and when it was in Asad’s hand, it went off, with a bullet hitting Hasan in the chest, leaving him dead on the spot. Asad fled the scene. Police reached the spot and collected evidence from the crime scene.

Meanwhile, police have detained six persons, including Ali and Awais, who were present at the scene when the incident occurred. Police are yet to register a case.

OBITUARY: A worker of the PPP has succumbed to the injuries at Lahore’s Mayo Hospital after he was critically injured in a road accident at Shaheen Chowk near here a couple of days ago.

Safdar Hussain Dar, who was actively involved with the PPP for the last 30 years, was hit by a speeding bus when he was riding his bike on the Gujrat Bypass.

Sources in the family said Dar was shifted to Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Teaching Hospital trauma center where the doctors referred him to the Mayo Hospital, Lahore, for treatment where he breathed his last on Sunday.

Safdar Dar was once closely associated with PPP leader Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar (late) and ex-MNA Mian Mushtaq Hussain Pagganwala.
