KARACHI: A suspected gangster and an alleged street criminal were shot dead in two separate encounters in the metropolis on Friday, police said.

Officials said an exchange of gunfire took place between police and suspects near Jahangirabad, within the remit of the Rizvia Society police station. As a result, one suspect was killed on the spot, while his accomplice managed to escape.

The deceased was identified as Mohammed Rasheed alias Rashid, described by police as a “habitual criminal” involved in street crimes and motorcycle snatching.

Initial investigations suggested that he was an active member of the Mannu gang allegedly involved in robberies and other offences.

Police said a pistol and a motorcycle were recovered from his possession.

In a separate incident, another encounter took place in Block-T, North Nazimabad, within the jurisdiction of the Shahrah-i-Noor Jehan police station. During the exchange of gunfire, a suspect, later identified as Zeeshan, was killed.

Police claimed that Zeeshan was involved in the snatching of motorcycles. A snatched motorcycle, a pistol, a mobile phone and a wallet were recovered from his custody.
